Chelsea’s end of Season Awards ceremony celebrated Lionesses stars James and Carter for their outstanding performances during the campaign.

James clinched the main prize after an exceptional year, boasting an impressive tally of 13 goals in just 15 Women’s Super League matches.

Meanwhile, Carter was recognized for her vital contributions in defense, earning the Players’ Player of the Year accolade.

The season has been marked by significant events for Chelsea, notably the announcement in November of manager Emma Hayes’ impending departure at the season’s end.

Notwithstanding leading Chelsea to the brink of the Champions League final, Hayes witnessed her side’s exit in the semi-finals after relinquishing a first-leg lead against Barcelona.

However, Chelsea remains in contention for the WSL title, as evidenced by their commanding 8-0 victory over Bristol City.

With the team now trailing leaders Manchester City by three points with a game in hand and a superior goal difference, the title race remains open.

“Thanks to all my players and staff that are around every day and put up with me as well. It’s been one of my most successful seasons and hopefully I can continue to do that for Chelsea,” James said.

In November, James achieved her first WSL hat-trick during a commanding 5-1 victory over Liverpool. The Lionesses standout repeated this feat in January against her former club, Manchester United.

As the WSL season draws to a close, Chelsea has only two matches remaining. They will face Tottenham on Wednesday before concluding their campaign against Manchester United on Saturday, May 18.

Following these fixtures, Hayes will transition to her new role with the USWNT, with Lyon’s Sonia Bompastor expected to assume the reins as Chelsea Women’s new manager.
