As part of efforts to address the food crisis occasioned by Federal Government policies, the Governor Godwin Obaseki-led administration in Edo State has kicked off distribution of 10kg bags of rice in Edo Central Senatorial District of the state.
The distribution is in continuation of the Edo State Food Support Programme also known as Christian Feeding Programme. Recall that the Governor had during the phase one opening ceremony of the programme for Edo South Senatorial District, said his administration has earmarked N1 billion monthly for the programme, adding that 60,000 10kg bags of rice had been purchased for onward distribution across the state through the state branch of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN).
At the distribution in the Edo Central Senatorial District, over 15,000 10kg bags of rice were distributed.
The rice distribution exercise designed to cushion the excruciating effect of the fuel subsidy removal by the Federal Government, which has inflicted untold hardship on Nigerians of which residents of Edo State are not exempted.
The commitment of the Edo State government to alleviate the plight of the people gave birth to the government food support programme.
Similar exercises had been held in Edo South and Edo North Senatorial Districts where thousands of persons benefited immensely from the programme as part of the efforts of Governor Godwin Obaseki-led administration to address the food crisis.
