The May edition of Kingdom Builders, the youth arm of Voice of Freedom Ministries International, ended last Sunday with a call by the Nigerian youths to the adults, especially parents, to concentrate on the home front.

This May edition, we began a series titled “Value System in Society” with a focus on the Home Front, had as concentrated on: Creating an awareness of the role each family member plays in the home; to dispel certain misconceptions that exist in the family; create possible solutions to disjointed families, and reignite the core necessary values for a happy family.

In one of the sessions, a panel of four, which consisted Mr Osa Victor Obayagbona, Managing Editor/Managing Director, the Nigerian Observer (children teacher); Dr. Mrs Ufuoma Esemude (a soil scientist and social entrepreneur); Miss Esther Okonkwo (President, Blessed Generation Church, Teen Church – VFM), and Master Evidence Osekhale Aimiononde (an ICT expert), with the host, Mr. Ebeghe Daniel Akporkureyen (Headquarters President, Kingdom Builders), discussed issues bordering on family and the home front.

Asked the role of father’s in the family, Mr Obayagbona said fathers are to preside over their families in love and righteousness and are responsible to provide the necessities of life and protection for their families, according to Ephessians 6: 4. He concluded by quoting Stephen Kendrick, a Bible commentator, who sums the roles of a father as thus: provider, protector, leader, teacher, helper, encourager, and friend.

On her part, Dr. Mrs Esemude, in taking a cue from the sub-theme of the seminar, said every battle in life is either lost or won at the home front, therefore couples should concentrate more on making the home front conducive enough for all members of the family. Parents can do this by making their children believe in them and by practising what we preach, she said.

Master Aimiononde said he believes, “Mothers must train their children to be better future husbands and wives and always spend time praying for them”.

“For children who have missed it, there is hope. With prayers and consistent counselling, there will be a way out,” Miss Okonkwo said.

The panellists all agreed that the home front needs the collective work of all members of the family to get the best and fulfil the will of God for the family.

The host, Mr Akporkureyen used the opportunity to tell visitors in the midst that the event is ‘Our Youth Sunday (Next Generation Service May edition),’ which is held every last Sunday of the month by the Kingdom Builders, the youth arm of Voice of Freedom Ministries. The purpose of having a youth arm is to be in a position to attend to the peculiarities of the modern day youth, “because we believe that without God fearing, spirit-filled youths, we have no future,” he said.

The National President of the Kingdom Builders, Mr Elisha Ken-Tiemo, taking the closing remarks, said to restore societal balance and family values before they derail completely, we must prioritize the preservation and promotion of cherished family values. “In Nigeria, these include integrity, the honour of the family name, unity, mutual respect, reverence for human life, nurturing of children, commitment to marriage, and dedication to hard work. A healthy family equals a healthy society”, he said.
