Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Edo State chapter on Saturday, June 1, joined its counterparts across the country to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Institute with a Diamond Road Walk and tree planting for Economic Transformation.

The event, which is part of the Institute’s anniversary celebrations, aims to promote economic development and growth in Nigeria.

The ceremony kicked off at the Museum ground, King’s Square in Benin City, the state capital with six symbolic tree planting, each one symbolizing a decade making it 60, which the Institution is celebrating.

In attendance at the Museum ground was NTA Benin Zonal Director, Mrs. Phil Obanor, Edo State ADC Governorship aspirant, Engr. Derek Izedonmwen, who were part of those that participated in the tree planting.

Thereafter, the Road Walk began with a brief stop at Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) secretariat, where the Institute members were received by the state chairman Comrade Festus Alenkhe.

The NUJ Edo State chairman congratulated the Institute for the feat achieved in their 60 years of existence and thanked them for their developmental strides in economic growth in Edo State and Nigeria.

The Road Walk terminated at the Edo State Government House, where the Institute was received by Mr. Daniel Odion on behalf of the Commissioner of Communication and Orientation, Hon. Chris Nehikhare, he rejoiced with the Institute and pledged to partner the NIPR for the greater good of Edo State.

Speaking on the theme of the celebration, ‘Transformation for Economic Development’, the chairman NIPR Edo State chapter, Dr. James-Wisdom Abhulimen, stated that the tree planting represents growth and prosperity for the Nigeria Nation while the Road Walk is to sensitize the people on mental fitness and awareness to stay healthy.

The Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) is a non-governmental organization established in 1963.

The body attained the status of a Chartered Institute in June 1990 through Decree No.16 (now an Act of the National Assembly) from which it derives the power and responsibility to register members, set parameters of knowledge to acquire to qualify to practise, regulate the practice and development of the PR Profession as well monitor professional conducts through an established Code of Ethics, among others.

The law stipulates standard academic and professional qualifications required for admission into the Institute.

As the sole regulator of Public Relations practice in Nigeria, the Institute is supervised by the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation.
