Coaches of the Super Eagles’ group opponents in the 2025 AFCON qualifying series, Benin Republic and Rwanda, have shared their reactions to the draw that placed their teams alongside the three-time African champions.
Benin Republic head coach Gernot Rohr is confident that the Squirrels can defeat the Super Eagles again.
The Squirrels secured a notable 2-1 victory over their more esteemed neighbors in a 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier last month.
Rohr, who managed the Super Eagles for six years, remains convinced that his team has what it takes to achieve another victory against Nigeria.
“It’s a difficult draw because Nigeria is there again. And we have Rwanda, an adversary we know well and are cautious of.
“There is also Libya, who have a good team; it will be a challenging trip there,” Rohr was quoted as saying on the official website of the Benin Football Federation.
Rwanda head coach Torsten Frank Spitller expressed his thoughts, acknowledging the difficulty of being in the same group as the Super Eagles.
“It’s actually a little bit unfortunate that we have two teams in the group, Nigeria and Benin, with whom we are also grouped in the World Cup qualifiers.
“But it is what it is,” Spitller was quoted on the official website of the Rwanda Football Federation.
The AFCON 2025 qualifiers will commence in September.
