Speaker of Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Udeme Otong, has lost bid to install Mr. Ekerete Inyang, present chairman of Abak Local Government Area as PDP candidate in the forth-coming local government election.

This follows the decision of the PDP to zone the chairmanship slot to Midim Clan, as against his earlier interest in Afahaobong Clan.

To this end, Abak Local Government Area bubbled to live Tuesday after the stakeholders meeting with the governor, where the leadership of the party pronounced the zoning of the chairmanship position to Midim Clan as against plans to perpetuate power in Afahaobong Clan, even after two democratic dispensations.

The pronouncement has been described as landmark with the belief that justice has been done at last in the Abak chairmanship tussle.

The jubilant Abak people commended Governor Umo Eno and the PDP for standing by the truth and also hailed the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Mr. Udeme Otong, for accepting the decision of the party against his personal interest.

They noted that the party’s decision had put to rest earlier attempts to foist an arrangement that would have entrenched a particular clan and threatened the peace enjoyed in the area in recent times.

They also commended the former Deputy Governor, Mr. Moses Ekpo, a former National Assembly member, Aniekan Umanah, and Managing Director, APICO, Patrick Udomfang, and many others for their stance on what they described as the truth.

Recall that on June 17, 2024, a formal protest was filed to the party in a joint memo endorsed by the former Deputy Governor, Mr. Moses Ekpo, former parliamentarian, Aniekan Umanah and Patrick Udomfang, drawing the attention of the party to an observed injustice that was about to be meted out to the people, promoting the decision of the governor and the party hierarchy to wade into the matter.
