The event commenced with an inspiring speech from the current CEO of Uyi Technical, Uyi Ogbebor, who emphasised the values of hard work and determination.
“Hard work is the bedrock of success”, Ogbebor said, urging attendees to be resilient and industrious. He also encouraged everyone to strive for excellence in their respective fields. Free skill programmes at the event included makeup, hairstyling, photography, baking, paint making, Gele styling, and creative digitizing with lots of sponsors.
The host of the day was Linda Osifo while the MC was MC Yannis and his assistant Daisy Leo Asigidi.
Asigidi introduced the skill instructors for the day and asked them a few questions on how they intended to impact on the people interested in learning a skill. The instructors were as follows: Rahzark, the CEO of Rahzark Pro Beauty and Rahzark Cosmetics; Naomi Aisosa, CEO; Naomi Cakesndmore; Design by JN; Agwam Kosisochukwu, the creative director of Cocotreats; Jennifer, CEO Nini Effect Studio, and Omwanghe Osagumwenro, CEO, Osagu Photography.
The photographer, Osagu Photography, facilitated the engaging discussion, highlighting the diverse opportunities within various crafts. The discussion particularly spotlighted the potential in photography with the host sharing his personal success story in the field.
“When he went to church, he had a revelation when the pastor was preaching and his mind left the pastor’s message and focused on the photographer in church and that was what gave him motivation on becoming a photographer,” he said.
The host also asked Designs by JN why most tailors don’t meet the expectation of their clients and later blame it on the client.
“When a client brings in her materials and choice of style, I ensure to let the client know if the cloth will suit her body size before proceeding,” Design by JN said.
The event underscored the importance of skill acquisition and empowerment, as these skills are vital in reducing the high unemployment rate in the country. Programmes like upgrades are essential in bridging the gap by offering practical solutions to unemployment.
The skill empowerment program marked a significant step through inspiring talks and skill acquisition toward transforming the power of skills in shaping a brighter future.
