Novak Djokovic, a seven-time champion, advanced to the Wimbledon semi-finals on Wednesday after Alex de Minaur withdrew from their quarter-final due to a hip injury.

The Australian ninth seed sustained the injury during his fourth-round victory over Arthur Fils and expressed disappointment on Wednesday: “I am devastated to pull out due to a hip injury.”

“I had hoped for a miracle this morning, knowing this would have been the biggest match of my career, but this injury is unique,” the 25-year-old remarked.

“One wrong move could escalate a three to six-week recovery to four months,” he added, acknowledging the severity of the injury.

Djokovic, set for his 13th Wimbledon semi-final and 49th at Grand Slams, awaits the winner between Taylor Fritz of the United States and Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti for a spot in Sunday’s final.
