…plays host to EU delegates to Nigeria
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s candidate in the Edo State gubernatorial election, Dr. Asue Ighodalo, has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission and security agencies to provide a level playing field for all political parties’ candidates vying for the office of the Governor so that the election will be a true reflection of the will of Edo people.
Ighodalo made the statement on Tuesday when he played host to the European Union (EU) Pre-Election Diplomatic Watch delegation to Nigeria and Ecowas.
The meeting which was held in his campaign office in Benin City, the Edo State capital, was at the request of the EU according to a letter signed by Samuela Isopi, the EU Ambassador, sighted, was to discuss the September 21, 2024 election with Dr. Asue Ighodalo, his running mate, Barr. Osarodion Ogie Esq., and other stakeholders within the Peoples Democratic Party.
The delegates said their mission was for pre-election assessment purposes basically to, “Gain a sense of how the preparations are coming along, issues that require the attention of international partners such as the EU both for the purpose of ensuring that the elections are violent free and in our deployment planning”.
In his reaction, Ighodalo thanked members of the delegation for coming, and assured them of PDP’s readiness for the upcoming election, noting that the party has been conducting issue-based campaigns within the ambit of the law by keenly following the instructions of Nigeria’s electoral regulatory body, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
