Fawaz Mohammed representing Etsako West Constituency has emerged Speaker of Edo State Youths Parliament for the second Assembly while Lisa Ebuwa Ohangbon representing Oredo East Constituency was elected Deputy Speaker of the House.
The plenary for the first quarter second session of the Parliament also featured the election of principal officers of the House.
Oath of membership and allegiance to the Edo State Youth Parliament was administered on the Deputy Speaker by the Speaker Fawaz Mohammed. Other members of the Parliament were subsequently administered oath of allegiance and membership of the Parliament by the Speaker as presided over by Mrs. Edna Uwakpode, the presiding Clerk of the Youths Parliament.
Members of the second Youths Parliament thereafter signed the deponent documents of the oath of allegiance and membership of the Youths Parliament.
In his acceptance speech, the new Speaker, Edo State Youths Parliament, Fawaz Mohammed promised to abide by the principle of inclusivity to build a just and egalitarian society.
The speaker committed to presiding over an Assembly which will create a legacy of progress while assuring of strengthening the confidence of citizens on the power of youths to deliver.
He said, “As we embark on this journey, I pledge to serve with integrity, transparency, and dedication. I will prioritize the interests of our youths, advocating for policies that promote education, employment, and empowerment.
“Our agenda will be guided by the principles of inclusivity, innovation, and sustainability. We must harness the energy and creativity of our youths to build a state that is resilient, prosperous, and just. This requires not only bold ideas but also a willingness to listen, learn, and adapt.
“I am committed to fostering a parliament that is open, participatory, and accountable. We will engage with our constituents, ensuring that their concerns and aspirations are reflected in our deliberations and actions. Together, we can create a legacy of progress that future generations will be proud of.”
The Speaker, Hon. Fawaz Mohammed during plenary announced the appointment of new principal officers of the Parliament to include Majority Leader, Destiny Ilegbodu, Minority Leader, Akin-Ola Emmanuel Eloghosa, Deputy Majority Leader, Desmond Osaivbie Ibizigbe and Deputy Minority Leader, Abu Emmanuel. The new house leaders subsequently adjusted to their new positions in Parliament.
The House moved an adjournment motion by Hon. Osahon Destiny Eseosa, Ovia North-East Constituency 1, and seconded by Hon. Akhilomen Nefisat Vanessa, Etsako West Constituency 2,
and there after plenary was adjourned to August 15, 2024
