…set to promote team work

There is palpable excitement in the hearts and minds of viewers and fans of the popular Nigerian reality TV show, Big Brother Naija, as the season 9 of the show is set to premiere this Sunday, July 28.

This is even more so as the show, which has produced winners like Efe, Miracle, Mercy, Laycon, Whitemoney, Phyna and Illebaye in the previous editions, is coming back with a twist.

In previous seasons, from ‘See Gobe’ to ‘Pepper Dem’, ‘Lockdown’, ‘Shine Ya Eye’, down to last year’s ‘All Stars’ edition which featured housemates from past editions including two previous winners, the norm was for housemates to come into the house individually. This time around, the organisers say the show will be a totally different one in the history of Big Brother Naija as housemates are coming into the house as pairs. This, they say, is a way of promoting team work.

“What we asked for this year was for pairs to enter, which is a first. Individuals usually enter as singles, but this year, we asked for people to come with their friends, besties, family members, wives, husbands, partners, to enter the show together as a pair,” Tejumola, of one of the organizers of the show, said during a media briefing.

“That was our selection criteria. Everything else is the personality of the pairs that we auditioned. The format itself remains the same, but as you know, they are cranking up the creativity this season.”

It was all excitement and fun for viewers and fans of the popular show on Saturday, 20th July, when the organizers held a pre-season event called ‘Fans’ Experience edition’ at the popular Ikeja City Mall (ICM) in Lagos, where fans also got to come into the house as pairs. They got to have an experience of being in the house with cameras, performed tasks, won prizes and partied as well.

Across social media platforms like X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram, viewers and fans said they feel excited and eager about this season and cannot wait to unravel who the housemates will be, and also see the twists, tricks, and secrets Big Brother has in store for the housemates in the house this season.

The winner of this season’s edition is to go home with a hundred million naira (N100,000,000) and an SUV, according to the organisers. This year also introduces a new and improved method of voting for contestants which will be conducted on the DSTV app as well as the website. Voting limits will be allotted based on the subscription package of individual viewers.

The show will premiere this Sunday, 28th July 2024, by 7pm WAT (West African Time) on African Magic Channel.
