Nigerian shot putter, Chukwuebuka Enekwechi, has set his sights on making history at the 2024 Paris Olympics, aiming to become the first Nigerian man to win a medal in a field event.

Enekwechi, who finished 12th in the final at the Tokyo Olympics, has learned from his experience and is now among the top eight in the world.

Fresh from winning Nigeria’s first gold medal at the 23rd African Senior Athletics Championships in Douala, Cameroon, Enekwechi is confident of his chances in Paris.

“Winning medals at the Olympics is always for those who are well prepared,” he said in an interview with The Guardian. “My first aim is to make the final, and from there, anything can happen. I’m optimistic I’ll return from Paris with good news.”
