Real Madrid has announced that Kylian Mbappe will be formally introduced as a player at the Santiago-Bernabeu stadium next Tuesday.
This confirmation follows less than 24 hours after the French star and his national team were eliminated from Euro 2024 by Spain in the semi-finals.
Mbappe, who will wear the number 9 jersey, is scheduled to be presented at midday (1000 GMT) on Tuesday at the Bernabeu. Real Madrid President Florentino Perez will welcome him for the signing of his five-year contract, the club announced on Wednesday.
The French captain had a challenging Euro 2024, having broken his nose in France’s opening match against Austria and missing a late opportunity to equalize in the 2-1 loss to Spain on Tuesday.
Mbappe is set to make his competitive debut for the Spanish and European champions when they kick off their La Liga campaign against Real Mallorca on the weekend of August 17/18. His first appearance at the Bernabeu will come a week later when Real Madrid hosts newly promoted Real Valladolid.
Mbappe joins Real Madrid as a free agent, reportedly earning an annual salary of 15 million euros ($16.2 million) with additional bonuses totaling over 100 million euros upon his arrival in the Spanish capital.
