The NFF will have to stretch its financial resources to engage the highly-sought-after Herve Renard as the next coach of the Super Eagles.

The French coach has demanded a monthly salary of $180,000 (approximately N253 million), along with several other conditions.

A top official said, “Yes, the NFF has made contact with Renard for the Super Eagles job, but the biggest obstacle is his demand for a $180,000 monthly salary, which is nearly N300 million.

“This would be the highest salary ever paid to a coach, and the NFF simply cannot afford it.

“This may well be a wild goose chase.”

Egypt has reportedly offered Renard $1.9 million, and his name has been mentioned in discussions about the new coach for the United States.

The 54-year-old coach has won the AFCON with both Zambia and Cote d’Ivoire.

It’s worth noting that the immediate past foreign coach of the Super Eagles, Jose Peseiro, had to take a significant pay cut to extend his contract until the delayed AFCON in Cote d’Ivoire.

Peseiro initially earned $70,000 a month when he started as the Super Eagles coach, but this was later reduced to $50,000. Despite this, he was owed for up to 13 months at one point.

Sports Minister John Enoh has emphasized that it is the NFF’s responsibility to pay for a foreign coach for the national team.
