The functioning Director of the Department of Field Publicity in the Delta State Ministry of Information, Comrade Salvation Ogono, has appealed to the ministry’s Public Enlightenment Officers in the 25 local government areas of the state to be diligent in their duties by doing all they could to publicize the policies and programmes of the state government.
Comrade Ogono made the call when he and his team paid a familiarization visit to the officers who converged at the Uvwie Local Government Council secretariat in Effurun.
Ogono, who was accompanied on the visit by his assistant, Mrs. Gertrude Onyekachukwu-Ute, encouraged the officers to endeavour to put in their best in the discharge of their duties, stressing that the state government was depending on them to ensure that information about the successes recorded by the Oborevwori Administration is shared at the grassroot, as well as acting as a feedback channel and a bridge between the state government and the people.
While bringing messages of felicitation from the Hon. Commissioner for Information, Dr. Ifeanyi Osuoza, assured the field officers that the ministry was working on ensuring a conducive work environment for officers to enable them discharge their duties effectively, stressing that the commissioner was aware of their challenges and something was being done about it.
In their separate remarks, a number of officers expressed frustration at the conditions under which they worked, appealing for the Ministry’s intervention by providing necessary tools to enable them perform better.
They promised not to relent in doing their best to publicize the policies and programmes of the state government.
Also speaking, Mrs. Gertrude Onyekachi-Ute, commended the efforts of some officers who put in the extra effort to get the job done.
She encouraged the officers to endeavour to meet their monthly news report target set for them by the ministry.
Also worthy of note was the suggestion of Mr. Samson Ogowewo, Public Enlightenment Officer for Isoko South Local Government Area, who suggested special training programmes for officers who are visually impaired and for working tools, such as cameras, media jackets and other working tools that identify field information officers as people actually working for the state government.
