Apparently, displaying high level of respect towards appeal of the Benin Monarch, His Royal Majesty, Oba Ewuare 11, the traditional head and Chief Priest of Ugbekun Community in Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area of Edo State, Ohen Osarumwense Amayo, has commended the resilient dispositions of the boys of Upper Sokponba Road, from the popular Third Junction down to Idogbo, for shelving the protest.

Ohen Amayo made his position known while admonishing the patriotic orientation of the boys, which according to him, redeemed the image of the locality, saying that Upper Sokponba had hitherto been a frightening area to people because of the level of their involvement in the 2020 EndSARS protest, which rocked the country, noting the boys do not want oppression, but respect and peaceful co-existence.

He noted that by this achievement, the boys of Upper Sokponba had demonstrated unity, peace and progress, which remain the hallmark of the Oba of Benin in bringing the expected progress to the kingdom.

The Ohen also thanked the Oba of Benin, who we adored as our God on earth, for his emergency appeal to the people of the state, prior to the kick off date for the protest, stressing the people of Benin Kingdom, especially the people of Upper Sokponba remain loyal to his kingship in the kingdom.

In a related development, the people of Ugbekun Community, especially Ohen Amayo, has berated the police authority for coming to take over the newly built Area Command Metro headquarters at Ogo N’erie in his domain, without his presence let alone extending invitation to him as the traditional ruler in charge of the area, who hold trust for the Benin Monarch.

He maintained that while he acknowledged the efforts of the Edo State government to secure the locality through the mechanism of building the police sub command, he also wanted both the state government and police authority to know that if anything is happening in the locality, he must be the first person to be aware, just as he described his abrupt neglect as not only a slight to his reputation but an act to undermine the essential roles played by the traditional institutions towards the development of the state and indeed society.
