Commissioner, Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Helen Isamoh, has stated that the state recognizes and honours humanitarian workers who risk their lives to provide aid to the people.

According to the Commissioner, women in Cross River State feel under pressures as women are traditionally responsible for our families for making sure everyone feeds and are healthy.

“As we mark World Humanitarian Day these women work tirelessly to support humanitarian teams on the frontlines of many emergencies.

“Working amid war, as well as natural and man-made disasters, they face not only the inherent risk of all people living in crisis but also the risk of simply being a woman,” she said.

She revealed that what drives these women to overcome challenges is the commitment to helping create a more inclusive, equitable future, emphasising that women and girls suffer the most during crises.

Also speaking, programme coordinator, United Nations Population Fund, Dr Andrew Kirima, said women are the most hit in crises situation.
