The expression ‘All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy’ came into play recently at the Edo State Library with the introduction of educational films by the management of the library as part of the learning culture for students.

The movies, which will be shown every Friday after school hours, are targeted at the secondary school students as part of their extracurricular activities.

In an interview, the Director of the library, Mr. Efosa Egharevba, disclosed that the initiative was borne out of the fact that from Monday to Friday students engage in academic work in school thereby having no time for relaxation. The management thought it wise to ease the students’ tension through the watching of educational movies.

Mr. Egharevba revealed that it was also a strategy to attract more students to the library to develop the habit of reading, especially during the holidays, saying being surrounded by books a student will be tempted to pick a book from the shelf to read.

The students of Imaguero and Oredo Girl Secondary schools were specially invited to kick start the movie tradition with the presentation of the film ‘Lion King’ and ‘Akeelah and the Bee’ for the viewing pleasure of the students.

Some of the students appreciated the Edo State government and the management of the library for the initiative and the opportunity to relax after a hard day at school, adding that a lot of inspirational and motivational lessons were learnt from the movies.
