Bendel Insurance Football Club, on Friday, August 16, advanced to the finals of the 2024 Governor Diri Douye Preseason Football Tournament after recording a goalless draw with Kwara Utd in their last group game.
It was not certain that the Benin Arsenals would be playing in the Cup Winners game after the 0-0 draw against the Harmony Boys until the last match of the Group B between Rivers Utd and Krusaders Feeders which pundits considered a walkover game for the Pride of Rivers.
But it was an upset for Rivers Utd as they suffered a 1-0 defeat in the hands of Krusaders Feeders, making qualification for the final match seamless for Insurance FC.
A well converted second half penalty by David Weke gave Krusader Feeders the edge over the Pride of Rivers in the keenly contested game at the Samson Siasia Stadium, Yenagoa.
Insurance FC won the Group B top spot with five points same as Kwara Utd. The Benin Arsenals recorded a 1-0 victory over Krusaders Feeders in the opening match of the tournament and are forced to a 1-1 draw by Rivers Utd in the second game before the goalless draw with Kwara Utd in their last group match.
The Benin Arsenals who are participating in the Bayelsa Preseason Football Tournament for the first time will be locking horns with the host team Bayelsa Utd on Sunday at the Samson Siasia stadium.
