Emmanuel Amuneke, a former Super Eagles star and coach, has been appointed as the new Head Coach of Heartland FC.
The presentation ceremony took place at the Imo State Government House, where Governor Hope Uzodimma officially announced Amuneke’s appointment.
Governor Uzodimma expressed his excitement about Amuneke’s return to the state, saying, “I am thrilled to announce that our brother, Mr. Emmanuel Amuneke, the celebrated international football legend from Imo State, has been appointed as the Head Coach of Heartland Football Club.”
He praised Amuneke’s remarkable career, stating, “His remarkable career has made us incredibly proud, and his return to our State in this new role brings a wave of optimism.”
The Governor acknowledged the challenges faced by Heartland FC in recent seasons, but expressed confidence that Amuneke’s appointment marks a turning point for the club.
“With Amuneke’s wealth of experience and indigeneship to the State, I am confident that this will be a turning point for Heartland FC, guiding them back to their winning ways and reigniting our collective passion for the team.”
Amuneke, 53, brings a wealth of experience to his new role, having previously coached NPFL clubs Julius Berger and Ocean Boys, as well as the Tanzania national team and clubs in Sudan, Egypt, and Zambia. His appointment is seen as a significant boost for Heartland FC, which will feature in the NPFL in the new season after acquiring the slot of promoted Beyond Limits Academy.
The move is also seen as a consolation for Amuneke, who had recently expressed interest in the Super Eagles top post but was not selected. His return to Imo State and appointment as Heartland FC coach is expected to bring a new wave of optimism and success to the club.
