Former coach of Côte d’Ivoire and Zambia, Hervé Renard, has agreed to take a pay cut to become the new head coach of the Super Eagles.
A confirmed NFF source reportedly stated that the Frenchman has agreed to a reduced salary to lead the Super Eagles.
Renard’s representatives initially demanded a monthly salary of $180,000 during discussions with the NFF technical committee.
He was one of the candidates originally shortlisted for the top position, but his high salary was a significant obstacle, as it far exceeded the NFF’s budget.
Renard’s contract with the French women’s team was concluded after they were eliminated from the Paris 2024 Olympics by Brazil last weekend.
Renard has frequently expressed his desire to lead a team to the 2026 World Cup, following his coaching stint with Saudi Arabia at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
He has achieved AFCON victories with both Côte d’Ivoire and Zambia.
Additionally, Renard has coaching experience in Ghana and Morocco.
