Former Chelsea midfielder Mikel Obi has revealed his plans to persuade Nigerian compatriot Victor Osimhen to join Chelsea, as the London club continues its pursuit of the Napoli striker.
In a video posted on X, Mikel expressed his enthusiasm for Osimhen’s potential signing, stating, “We want somebody who can finish, score goals, the tap-ins. Someone like Erling Haaland. That’s something Victor Osimhen will bring to Chelsea.”
Mikel emphasized his commitment to convincing Osimhen to join Chelsea, saying, “I’ll make sure I send him those text messages and calls, making sure Chelsea is his top priority! But it seems like he loves the club and wants to come to Chelsea.”
The former Super Eagles captain also revealed that Chelsea legend Didier Drogba is in contact with Osimhen, sharing his own experiences and insights about the club. Mikel added, “Didier is also speaking to him, sharing his ideas and what the club means to us. We all want to see Victor come to the club.”
Osimhen’s impressive performances for Napoli have made him a highly sought-after striker in Europe, with Chelsea, Arsenal, Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester United, and Liverpool all linked to his signature. However, his €130m price tag has proven to be a significant obstacle, with PSG and other suitors backing off. Chelsea remains the only European club still actively pursuing Osimhen’s signature.
Mikel believes that Osimhen’s signing would be a significant coup for Chelsea, stating, “I think if we can secure his signature, it would be fantastic for the club. He’s somebody who will get us goals, and that’s something that we need right now.”
With the transfer window nearing its close, Mikel’s efforts to convince Osimhen to join Chelsea could prove crucial in securing the striker’s signature. As Mikel aptly put it, “A fantastic guy, a fantastic human being, and I really do hope he comes to the club.”
