Asisat Oshoala found the back of the net for Bay FC in their 5-2 defeat to Barcelona during a highly anticipated international friendly at PayPal Park on Tuesday.

This was Oshoala’s first encounter with the Catalan giants since leaving them in February. The 29-year-old Super Falcons forward struck first, giving Bay FC the lead in the 17th minute, in front of a crowd of 14,187 fans.

Bay FC celebrated her goal on Instagram shortly after, stating, “It had to be Oshoala to score first against her former team.”

Oshoala intercepted a pass from Barcelona’s goalkeeper near the edge of the penalty area and fired a shot into the bottom left corner.

Barcelona equalized in the 21st minute when Ewa Pajor dribbled down the right flank and delivered a pass to Kika Nazareth, who fired a shot from the edge of the box into the left corner of the net.

Bay FC utilized 21 players throughout the match, with Oshoala being substituted for Anderson at the start of the second half. She continued her impressive scoring form that saw her net 85 goals in 101 appearances for Barcelona between 2019 and 2024, during which she won numerous trophies and individual accolades.

The Nigerian international, who has also played for Liverpool and Arsenal, is expected to lead the attack for Bay FC in their upcoming away game against Portland Thorns FC at Providence Park on Friday.

The match remained friendly in spirit, with Barcelona players seen hugging Oshoala at the final whistle, celebrating their reunion. The UEFA Champions League winners also expressed their joy on social media, stating, “Great to see you again, Asisat Oshoala.”
