The Nigerian women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, faced a tough defeat against host nation France in their second Group B game at the Paris Olympic Games.
Despite a strong start, D’Tigress was unable to maintain their momentum, ultimately losing 75-54 to France.
The team had previously made headlines with their stunning upset over world number 3 Australia in their opening game. However, they were unable to replicate that success against France, who dominated the game with a nearly 20-point difference.
D’Tigress started strong, fighting back from a significant deficit to finish the first quarter 24-20 in France’s favor. However, France continued to pull ahead, leading 38-31 by the end of the second quarter and 54-39 by the end of the third quarter.
Notwithstanding moments of brilliance from the Nigerian team, led by Coach Rena Wakama, France’s determination and skill proved too much for D’Tigress to overcome.
The team will now look ahead to their final Group B game against Canada, who remains winless in the competition.
D’Tigress will need to secure a win to stay in contention for a spot in the next round.
