Despite Nigeria’s disappointing performance, and failing to secure a single medal, these athletes made a significant impact, showcasing their exceptional skills and determination.
Athletes of Nigerian origin won medals in various events, including Yemisi Ogunleye, who claimed gold in women’s shot put for Germany, and Salwa Eid Naser, who secured silver in women’s 400m for Bahrain. Annette Echikunwoke won silver in women’s hammer throw for the USA, while Michael Olise and Samu Omorodion contributed to silver and gold medal wins in men’s football for France and Spain, respectively.

Barthelemy Chinenyeze led France to gold in men’s volleyball, and Victoria Ohuruogu and Yemi Mary John were part of Great Britain’s bronze medal-winning team in women’s 4x400m relay. Eziyoda Magbegor helped Australia secure bronze in women’s basketball, and Chiaka Ogbogu and Omoruyi Loveth won silver and gold medals in women’s volleyball for the USA and Italy, respectively. Femi “Bam” Adebayo played a crucial role in the USA’s gold medal win in men’s basketball.
