Tension is brewing in Benin City following the death of a woman identified as Lilian Osas, the alleged secret lover of a 25-year-old housewife, Osarode Obruche, who has since gone into hiding to evade arrest.

The incident reportedly stemmed from a family dispute over a failed visa procurement deal between Osarode and her uncle. Sources said the young housewife had recently secured a student visa and sought to help her husband and two children join her abroad. To raise funds for the process, she allegedly turned to her uncle, who provided documents from one of his landed properties as collateral to secure the needed money.

However, when the visa applications for Osarode’s husband and children were denied, the uncle, who had lost a significant amount of money, demanded a refund. The disagreement is said to have strained family ties, eventually escalating into a confrontation.

On August 4, 2024, the uncle reportedly stormed Osarode’s apartment at No. 1 Evbu Close, Gateway, Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of Edo State, where he allegedly caught her in an intimate moment with her lover, Lilian Osas. He was said to have attempted to record the act and raise alarm but was unsuccessful.

Hours later, after reporting the matter to the police, the uncle returned to the apartment with officers to effect an arrest. By then, Osarode had stepped out with her children to buy food, leaving Lilian Osas inside the house.

Eyewitnesses said panic gripped the neighborhood as gunshots rang out when Lilian attempted to escape. She was fatally shot by the police, and her body was later deposited in a local mortuary.

Since the incident, Osarode has reportedly relocated with her family to an undisclosed location. Police authorities have declared her wanted for allegedly violating the Same-Sex Marriage Prohibition Act of 2014, in addition to the controversy surrounding the failed visa deal.
