Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong is set to leave PAOK for Al Khalood in Saudi Arabia ahead of the 2024/25 season, following an agreement on a transfer fee between the two clubs.

The 30-year-old has also finalized personal terms with the Saudi team.

Football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano announced on X, “William Troost-Ekong has agreed to join Al Khalood in Saudi Arabia. PAOK and Al Khalood agreed on a fee, plus personal terms are also in place.”

Troost-Ekong has been on the radar of Saudi Arabian clubs for some time. Greek outlet Gazzetta Greece reported that Shabab Al-Ahli also made an offer for the experienced defender. Shabab Al-Ahli were hoping their manager, Paulo Souza, would facilitate the signing of the Nigerian.

The pair had previously worked together at Salernitana before the Portuguese coach was dismissed in October 2023, four months after the defender had joined PAOK Salonika in Greece.

The 30-year-old has been in excellent form since the beginning of the year, helping Nigeria to a second-place finish at the Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast and earning the tournament’s Most Valuable Player Award.

Troost-Ekong, who won the 2023/2024 Greek Super League title with PAOK FC, has often reiterated his happiness playing at the club.
