UHUNMWODE —The incessant communal crisis between Uselu N’ Ahor and Ahor communities in Uhunmwode Local Government Area of Edo State has again reared its ugly head as armed youths from Uselu N’ Ahor allegedly attack Ahor community on Wednesday, July 31, 2024.
In the eschewing fight, two persons were killed from Ahor community, while one Sunday Osazuwa and the son of a former Odionwerie (Head) of Isikan quarters in Ahor community, Fred Osaretin Aghahowa narrowedly escaped death.
Information gathered by our reporter reveals that the age-long crisis between Uselu N’ Ahor and Ahor communities have been on for decades.
The crisis which is over a large portion of land have claimed several lives as both communities are laying claim to the disputed portion of land.
It was gathered that in August 28, 2011, the wife of the Odionwerie of Isikan quarters in Ahor, Felicia Osagiede Aghahowa was abducted from her home in Ahor, her corpse was found three day later, dumped in a dilapidated and abandoned well in the back of her compound.
The gruesome killing of Mrs Aghahowa sparked another round of crisis.
It was also gathered that the Odionwerie of Isikan quarters in Ahor community, Pa James Aghahowa Abonayima has several plots of land in the disputed portions of the communal land and whenever there is crisis, the family bears the brute and they are always the main target.
It was revealed that the dastardly murder of Pa Aghahowa’s wife in August 2011 led to his death in 2015 and after his death, members of Uselu N’ Ahor community intensifed their attacks on Ahor community.
One of such attack occurred in June 27, 2020, when Uselu N’ Ahor youths invaded Ahor community, went to the house of late Pa Aghahowa and attacked his son, Fred.
The attack left him with severe injuries and a broken leg before he was rescued. One of the community elders, Mr Benard Egharebva was abducted on a lonely farm road in 2021 and he has not been seen, since them
It was futher gathered that because of the stance of Fred and his siblings over their late father’s portions of land, that they are not going to concede it or let the Uselu N’ Ahor community take an inch of the land, that is why he is been targeted for death
This latest attack July 31,2024, where Fred narrowedly escaped, has made him to flee for his life.
His whereabouts is unknown as at the time of filing this report.
