The Executive Chairman, Edo State Sports Commission, Olympian Yussuf Alli has directed that all athletes and coaches of the teams that qualified for the forthcoming National Youth Games, ‘Asaba 2024 Games’, to move to camp immediately ahead of the games scheduled to begin on September 9.
The Edo Sports Commission boss gave the directive this evening at the end of competitions at the zonal elimination games hosted by Edo state.
Alli said he was impressed by the overall performance of Team Edo, scoring six over nine in the elimination games in Benin City.
He urged all those responsible for the preparation of the young athletes to do all that is necessary to keep them in top shape, promising that the Edo Sports Commission will make all needed resources available.
In the nine sports featured in the zonal elimination, Team Edo qualified in six and lost only three. Team Edo will be missing out on Basketball, Abula and Volleyball in the Asaba Games.
Team Edo shone and qualified in Football (Male), Rugby (Male and Female); Beach Volleyball, Handball (Female); Hockey (Female) and Cricket (Male and Female)
Edo football team beat Team Bayelsa 3-1 on Friday evening at the Western Boys mini stadium and booked the only ticket to the Asaba 2024 Games proper.
