Team Nigeria added a silver medal to its tally on Saturday at the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris, as Flora Ugwunwa secured second place in the women’s javelin throw.

Competing in the F54 category, Ugwunwa achieved a best throw of 19.26 meters to clinch the silver medal.

Her series of throws included 18.00m, 18.24m, 18.68m, 18.40m, and 17.50m, with the winning 19.26m coming on her second attempt.

Uzbekistan’s Nurkhon Kurbanova claimed the Gold with a world record-breaking throw of 21.12m in her fifth attempt. Kurbanova, who also won bronze in the women’s shot put F54 event, dominated the competition with throws of 20.07m, 21.02m, 20.27m, 21.02m, and 20.98m, before her record-setting 21.12m.

Ugwunwa’s Silver brings Team Nigeria’s medal count to five, including one Gold, two Silvers, and two Bronzes, placing the team in 52nd position overall as of Saturday. The Games conclude on Sunday.
