The provost of Edo State College of Nursing Sciences (EDOCNS), Prof. Patricia Ucheoma Ukaigwe, has expressed gratitude to the Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, for the groundbreaking efforts in revamping the institution, and bringing it to new heights of educational excellence.
The provost stated this when the college recently played host to a four-day CPR training programme conducted by the esteemed team of Code Red Emergency Medical Services instructors from the American Heart Association (AHA), led by the renowned Dr. Chiedozie Osuorji.
The comprehensive training programme has not only enriched the skills of the first cohort of nursing students and faculty but has also empowered them to better serve their communities.
Participants were filled with gratitude as they shared their experiences during the intensive sessions held at the college’s state-of-the-art Skills Laboratory in Benin City.
Aliu Nurudeen, the Head of the Department of Public Health Nursing, commended the organizers and Prof. Ukaigwe for the successful programme, highlighting the remarkable progress the school has made under Governor Obaseki’s visionary leadership.
He emphasized the importance of continuous learning, particularly in CPR training, to enhance nursing services for the benefit of society.
Retired Director of Nursing Services in Edo State, Hossanna Alex Enunwaonye, expressed her enthusiasm to part of the programme, urging community members to become rescue agents by spreading knowledge and support in various settings.
She lauded both Governor Obaseki and Prof. Ukaigwe for their instrumental roles in the advancement of the college and the successful collaboration with the AHA team for the training.
Charles Oloriegbe, the Head of the Nursing Department, also gave his thoughts about the programme just as he expressed gratitude for the revitalization of the institution due to Governor Obaseki’s unwavering commitment to education
He commended Prof. Ukaigwe for her dedication and coordination of the CPR training, emphasizing the invaluable skills acquired for patients care.
Faustina Edomon Tijani, a Registered Nurse and Sickbay Nurse & Hostel Manager, shared her appreciation for the opportunity to enhance her skills as a Certified Basic Life Support Provider. She now feels confident in her ability to handle emergencies and save lives in critical situations.
The excitement and gratitude were further echoed by participants, including first cohort nursing male student of EDOCNS, Agbator Osehimen Precious, who is grateful for the opportunity to participate in the CPR Certification with AHA on Basic Life Support under the guidance of Dr. Chiedozie Osuorji of the Code Red EMS.
The code Red EMS gave the opportunity to learn how to identify and respond to cardiovascular emergencies, equipped participants with skills to save lives in critical situations. His newfound skills he said makes him a valuable asset in the world of healthcare.
Another first Cohort Nursing Student, Dada Onaopemipo Elizabeth found herself embarking on a journey in Basic Life Support training.
With newfound skills and expressed gratitude to Governor Godwin Obaseki for the rebirth of the college and Provost, Prof. Patricia Ukaigwe who is always looking for ways to add values to the college and the lives of the students . To this, she now stands ready to respond swiftly in emergency situations.
Other students who benefitted from the CPR Basic Life Support training and got their certifications amongst the 81 First cohort nursing students were Akpata Ajayi,Testimony Zishai and Edeh Chisom Judith who were amongst 81. They also expressed their gratitude for being part of the life-saving training programme.
They credited Governor Obaseki and Prof. Ukaigwe for their immense contributions to the college’s growth and development, as well as the invaluable skills they have gained under the guidance of the Code Red Emergency Medical Services team.
The successful completion of the CPR training programme marks a new chapter in the college’s journey towards excellence, thanks to the transformative efforts of Governor Obaseki and the dedicated leadership of Prof. Ukaigwe.
The future looks bright for the 81 First cohort nursing students and faculty as they continue to learn, grow, and make a significant impact in healthcare and their communities.
