Ex-Super Eagles striker Odion Ighalo has expressed his frustration over the criticism directed at his compatriot, Victor Osimhen, following the failed transfer from Italian club Napoli.
Victor Osimhen, 25, has been caught up in a complex transfer saga, with unsuccessful attempts to move to Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal and English club Chelsea.
In a response on Sunday via his X handle under the username #ighalojude, Ighalo revealed that Osimhen was distressed after their conversation. Ighalo tweeted, “No human being is perfect, and we have all made mistakes in life, but seeing the comments about this young man from his own country’s people makes me really sad, without even knowing what happened.”
“I spoke to him, and I could feel the pain in his voice. The way he’s been treated, this young man plays with his heart and passion for his country.
“Hmmm, it’s well. He will definitely come back stronger. We learn every day in life.”
On Thursday, fans and friends of the current African Footballer of the Year shared varying opinions about his potential next career move amid ongoing transfer speculation.
Victor Osimhen had a standout 2023/2024 season, playing a crucial role in helping Napoli win their first Scudetto in 40 years.
