Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen suffered a 3-2 defeat to RB Leipzig at home on Saturday, marking their first loss in the German top flight since May 2023 and ending a 35-match unbeaten streak.

In a heated encounter that saw Leipzig’s coach, Marco Rose sent to the stands in the first half, Leverkusen initially surged to a 2-0 lead with goals from Jeremie Frimpong and Alex Grimaldo.

Kevin Kampl pulled one back for Leipzig against the run of play just before the break, and Lois Openda equalized early in the second half.

Openda then scored again with 10 minutes left to seal the victory for Leipzig over last season’s league and cup champions.
