…commends PAN for donating 600 crates of eggs to orphanages

The Delta State Government has commended the Poultry Association of Nigeria, Delta State chapter for its voluntary provision of 600 crates of fresh eggs to 51 orphanage homes in the state, describing the gesture as a clear confirmation of the institutionalization of the MORE Agenda of the present administration.

Delta State Commissioner for Information, Dr. Ifeanyi Osuoza gave the commendation in a key-note address he delivered at the official presentation of 600 crates of fresh eggs by the Poultry Association of Nigeria, Delta State chapter, to 51 orphanage homes in the state as part of what the association termed “thank you” to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for supporting the Delta State Poultry Farmers with maize palliative in order to cushion the effect of high cost of poultry feed.

The Information Commissioner, represented at the event by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Theresa Oliko, described the gesture as a welcome development, noting that governance should be a collaborative effort between the government and the citizens who mutually support each other in a cycle of progress.

The commissioner encouraged other associations to emulate the poultry association and key into the vision of the MORE agenda by supporting vulnerable individuals, families and communities across the state.

In his welcome address earlier, the Chairman of the Delta State chapter of the association, Chief Eric Tomfawei, stated that the association’s gesture was motivated by the 448 tonnes and 60 tonnes of palliative maize it received from the state government earlier in the year.

Tomfawei stated that with the right support for poultry farmers in the state, eggs could be given free of charge to the poor and vulnerable persons, especially children.

“We have invited only fifteen of the orphanage homes to this flag-off due to logistical challenges. Those who are not here will receive their allocations through the respective LGA PAN Executives,” Tomfawei said.

Chief Tomfawei appealed to the state government for an upward review of the quantity of maize allocated to PAN during the second phase of the palliative distribution exercise.

The highlight of the event was the presentation of the eggs to the representatives of the different orphanage homes.
