Nigeria’s para-badminton players, Bolaji Eniola and Chigozie Nnanna, have advanced to the quarterfinals of the Paralympics in Paris following their victories in their second matches.

In the women’s singles, Eniola continued her strong performance by defeating Australia’s Celine Aurelie Vinot 2-0 (21-8, 21-14). This win secured her a place in the quarterfinals on her debut at the Games. Eniola had previously dominated her first match in the women’s singles SL3 Group Stage on Thursday, overcoming India’s Kaur Mandeep with a score of 21-8, 21-14.

Nnanna, aiming to match Eniola’s success, won his men’s singles match against Indonesia’s Fredy Setiawan 2-0 (21-12, 24-22), also his second consecutive win. Earlier on Thursday, Nnanna had excelled in his first match of the men’s singles SL4 Group Stage, defeating Germany’s Marcel Adam 2-0 (21-12, 21-15).

Both players have given Nigeria a strong start in the event, and the country’s 23-athlete contingent will look to build on these successes. At the 2020 Paralympic Games in Tokyo, Nigeria secured 10 medals.

Since making its Paralympic debut at the 1992 Games in Barcelona with three gold medals, Nigeria has accumulated a total of 80 medals: 40 Gold, 19 Silver, and 21 Bronze.
