The Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) has confirmed that the Local Government Council elections will take place on October 5, 2024, despite ongoing court litigations, maintaining that preparations are in full swing to ensure the polls run smoothly.

RSIEC Commissioner for Public Affairs and Civic Education, Tobins Tamunotonye, who disclosed this in an interview with Channels Television, dismissed claims that ongoing court litigations could halt the October 5 Local Government Council elections in Rivers State. He stated that the commission is unaware of any court orders affecting the elections.

Tamunotonye disclosed that 17 out of 19 political parties, including the All Progressives Congress (APC), have successfully presented candidates from primaries supervised by the commission.
