With preparations underway for its inaugural edition, Varsity Cup, Nigeria’s first annual national university football competition for both men’s and women’s teams, has confirmed several top institutions as hosts for the 2024 men’s football season matches.
In line with Varsity Cup’s mission to create a platform for the nation’s brightest student-athletes to excel, this season will be hosted by some of Nigeria’s most prestigious and competitive universities, including the University of Ilorin, University of Benin, and University of Lagos, among others.
The organizers have made significant efforts to ensure the competition sets a new benchmark in Nigeria’s collegiate sports. The championship aims to not only elevate the profiles of participating athletes but also to promote unity and healthy competition among universities nationwide.
The host universities, having successfully undergone a rigorous selection process, expressed their eagerness to provide access to their facilities and all necessary support services, including medical, security, and student organizations, ensuring unforgettable experiences for players, officials, and fans alike.
Dubbed “The Champions League of Nigerian Universities,” the Varsity Cup Men’s Football 2024 will feature 10 of the country’s top university teams competing in 26 exciting football matches across Nigeria’s geo-political zones.
Each game will showcase exceptional skill, teamwork, and sportsmanship as the teams battle for the prestigious Varsity Cup title. With high stakes on the line, the two lowest-performing teams will face relegation, adding even more intensity to the competition.
