… marks Humanitarian Day

Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State has stated that the world is witnessing unprecedented levels of suffering with millions injured as a result of conflicts ravaging the world.

“Today, we are gathered here to honour Humanitarian Workers. We are reminded of the need for collective action,” he said.

Governor Otu said this in a keynote address to mark the 2024 World Humanitarian Day and Symposium with the theme: #Actforhumanity, held at Danic Hotel Calabar, the Cross River State capital.

Out, who was represented by Lawretiatia Ita, Commissioner for Establishment and Pension, said there was a need for collaboration and partnership.

The Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr. Mrs Helen Isamoh Egodo said the theme for this year’s World Humanitarian Day is ‘Act for Humanity,’ and is a clarion call for action in the face of escalating violence against Humanitarian Workers.

“Everywhere in the world including here in our state, Humanitarian Workers are the embodiment of compassion, courage and resilience.

“Today, as we celebrate ourselves, I want to extend my deepest gratitude to all the humanitarian workers who have dedicated their lives to helping others. In a world where crises are becoming more frequent and severe, your efforts are more critical than ever”, the commissioner stated.
