The Managing Director, Edo State Geographic Information Service (EDOGIS), Osaro Grace Aihie, FNVIS on Sunday, led management and staff of the agency to offer thanks to God for being rated the Best State GIS in Nigeria by the Presidency.
The thanksgiving service held at the St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Airport Road, Benin City, Edo State, attracted dignitaries from all walks of life, both far and near who joined the agency’s staff to offer thanks to God for the feat.
Recall that on Friday, October 11, 2024, the Bureau of Public Service Reforms, in the Office of the Presidency, bestowed on EDOGIS the award of the Best State GIS in Nigeria following a painstaking online assessment conducted on GIS organizations across various media platforms in the country.
Fielding questions from journalists shortly after the well-attended thanksgiving mass, the EDOGIS MD, Mrs Osaro Aihie said the year 2024 would not be complete without showing appreciation to God who bestowed on her and her team of hardworking staff the wisdom and guidance to pilot the affairs of the agency in the right direction under the enabling environment provided by the Governor Godwin Obaseki-led administration.
According to her, the agency recently won the enviable and lofty reputation as the Best State GIS in Nigeria, given by the Presidency through the Bureau of Civil Service Reforms, which is a culmination of other previous awards.
She said: “Firstly, last year we got an award from the Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers acclaiming us to be the best and most organized GIS in the entire South-South region of the country.
“Again, we received an award from the immediate past Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Benin Branch, for efficient Service Delivery and Enhancement to our clients and people of Edo State
“Finally, this month, precisely on the 11th of October, in Abuja, the Presidency through the Bureau of Civil Service Reforms gave us a National Award as the Best GIS in Nigeria and at the same time, and on the same occasion, our amiable Governor, His Excellency, Mr. Godwin Nogheghase Obaseki was presented with an Award as the Best Digital Governor in Nigeria.
“To me , this and many other achievements were made possible by the Grace of God within the 2 years and 2 months that I came on board, and I promised God that if He enhances me , and members of Staff of EDOGIS we all will, in turn, troop out to acknowledge and appreciate Him. That is exactly what we have done today. Like that one leper in the Bible who only, among the 10 lepers that were cleansed, came to give God thanks.”
The Managing Director, however, noted that the leadership qualities of Governor Godwin Obaseki in the last eight years have brought transformation into the civil service through the implementation of innovative and effective policy reforms, which created the enabling environment for everyone to operate and function optimally in the state.
The introduction and implementation of these policies and reforms by Governor Godwin Obaseki, according to Mrs. Aihie, have led to a win-win situation for EDOGIS and her members of staff, investors and the people of Edo State, thereby reinforcing hope and credibility to the business of the seamless land acquisition and administration now prevalent in the state.
