Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface has caught the attention of several European clubs, with Chelsea among those reportedly scouting the Bayer Leverkusen forward, according to Transfer News Live.
Boniface joined Leverkusen last season for €20 million from Belgian club Royale Union SG after an impressive stint in the Jupiler Pro League.
The Akure-born striker enjoyed a standout debut season in the German Bundesliga, contributing to 31 goal involvements in 39 appearances (21 goals and 10 assists). His performances were instrumental in Leverkusen’s success, as they clinched the Bundesliga and the German Cup titles, although they narrowly missed out on the Europa League crown after being defeated by Atalanta, with fellow Nigerian Ademola Lookman netting a hat-trick in the final.
Boniface has carried that form into the 2024/25 season, already scoring four goals and providing one assist in six games.
His strong start to the season has sparked discussions of a potential move, with reports suggesting that Chelsea has been tracking his progress closely. Transfer News Live reported, “Chelsea have scouted Victor Boniface in recent weeks as they monitor his development at Bayer Leverkusen.”
Meanwhile, last Thursday, EPL sides Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur, and Newcastle United sent scouts to watch Ademola Lookman in action during Atalanta’s UEFA Champions League clash with Arsenal, hinting at potential interest in the player for a summer transfer, according to TBR Football’s Graeme Bailey.
Victor Osimhen’s future also remains a talking point, with Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain keeping tabs on his situation.
While Chelsea is now monitoring Boniface, Bayer Leverkusen will be keen to retain their star striker, having already fended off interest from Manchester United last summer. Leverkusen had placed a £47 million price tag on Boniface, who was a top target for the Premier League giants during the last transfer window.
According to Transfermarkt, the 23-year-old is currently valued at €40 million and has four years remaining on his contract. If Leverkusen decides to sell him, they will hope to secure a significant fee for the Nigerian talent.
