… extends council poll by 1 week
The Cross River State Electoral Commission (CROSIEC) has slashed the nomination fee for chairmanship candidates from N5 million to N1 million only.
Disclosing this at the CROSIEC headquarters on Friday, the chairman of the Commission, Dr Ekong Edet Boco, stated that sequel to the appeal by the Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC) to CROSIEC for the revision in the nomination fees for chairmanship and councillorship, the CROSIEC nomination forms for the forthcoming Local Government Council Election in the state had been extended by one week.
The CROSIEC in its meeting resolved that the cost of nomination fee be reduced from N5 million to N1 million for chairmanship and from N1 million to N200,000, for counselling in line with the appeal made by IPAC to the governor.
Also, in the need to ensure a free and credible electoral process, the Commission has graciously extended the election by one week.
Accordingly, the proposed Local government Council Election in the state will now be held on Saturday, November 2, 2024, while the campaign will end on Friday, November 1, 2024.
IPAC and other stakeholders are enjoined to note the above changes that Local Government Election will now hold on November 2, 2024, the commission said.
