As the Edo State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in the just concluded governorship election, Dr. Asue Ighodalo, approaches the tribunal to seek justice, a PDP chieftain from Etsako East Local Government Area and former Edo State House of Assembly aspirant, who won his community for the PDP, Engr. Daniel Danjuma Ilugbekhai, has called on the Nigerian judiciary to guide against putting justice in chains when delivering their judgement.
He tasked the Nigerian judiciary to enforce themselves as a vessel of social engineering, bringing sanity into the maddening crowd of politicians who recently rigged and imposed themselves on the people of Edo State as governor-elect.
He maintained that the judiciary’s failure before now to enforce law as a vessel of social engineering is the reason why a small clique is always urging the majority to go to court, describing such All Progressives Congress’ (APC) utterances as an assault on the Nigerian judiciary.
He said as the term “Go to Court” clearly shows their willingness to buy over the judiciary, as nothing good can be obtained from going to court, saying it is time for the judiciary to demonstrate to the world that justice is not sold in court, but rather served to deserving citizens, not the highest bidder.
Engr. Ilugbekhai, who stated this in a statement while reacting to the boast of the opposition party in the state, challenged the Nigerian judiciary to use their landmark judgement in the just concluded Edo governorship election as a starting point for restoring public confidence and building a new institution that can be called the last hope of the common man and the protector of all in checking the insult of the APC, which has perceived the court as a toothless bulldog and palace where justice is bought and sold.
“Justice is immortal, eternal, and immutable. Law is not law if it contradicts the principles of eternal justice. The judiciary must therefore ensure that law and morality do not contradict each other when delivering judgement in the recently concluded Edo governorship election on the basis of technicalities,” he appealed.
While praying to God to give the judiciary the courage to advance the cause of justice and defend what is true and just, he also urged the international community and media to bim their light on the Edo governorship election judicial proceedings, stating that the survival of our democracy is dependent on the media as the fourth estate of the realm in order to avoid putting democracy in chains.
