The Federal Government of Nigeria has raised an alarm for quick and effective ways to tackle the injurious impact of climate change in the country.

The Minister of Environment, Alhaji Balarabe Lawal, dislosed in a statement at the recently concluded Commonwealth Head of Government Summit (CHOGM) that held in the capital of the independent state of Samoa, Apai.

In the summit, Lawal stressed the effect of climate change as a general and international problem that needs urgent response.

Lawal said Nigeria is already facing an unpleasant and bitter experience in the destructive impact of climate change through rising sea levels, flooding, degrading lands and unstable weather, noting that it is high time Nigeria collaborated with the Commonwealth of states to address these issues.

He underscores Nigeria’s position in environment, security and democracy issues prompted by current challenges ravaging the world.

“Nigeria also made it’s position clear in support of democracy, security and protection of civil rights across Commonwealth nations, including the process for strengthening the Commonwealth to make it stronger and more vibrant,” he said.

Lawal assured of Nigeria’s dedication to the organization’s regeneration, stating that the nation’s focal point is on results-oriented value creation and a responsive Commonwealth.
