BENIN CITY — It was commotion and confusion at No. 5 Faith Lane, Evbuotubu Quarters, upper Ekenwan Road, Benin City, as five men armed with sophisticated weapons attacked the family house of a politician and an activist, Osazee Clement Osayomore on October 5, 2024.
According to a close family source, the gunmen who were acting on the orders of some politicians in the All Progressives Congress(APC), were looking for Clement over issues bordering on political and electioneering matters.
The source said that Clement, who was a Deputy Governorship Aspirant in the September, 2016 Edo State Gubernatorial election under People Party of Nigeria(PPN) and also the Edo State House of Assembly aspirant in the March 2019 Presidential/Senatorial/ Legislative elections in Nigeria, had problems with the APC members who he accused of electoral fraud during the 2020 governorship election in Edo State.
The source also said that Clement claimed that he was in possession of pictorial and documentary evidence that show the party members/agents indulging in electoral malpractices, rigging, ballot box snatching, and vote buying among others. The allegations made the party members jittery and that started the harassment and threats.
It was learnt that thugs were sent to Clement’s mother’s house which is also their family house in Benin to search for him.His mother and other relatives were also attacked and severely beaten.
He said that one of the APC chieftains in Benin City accused Clement’s wife, Deborah Osayomore, proprietor of Wind of Change Educational School of being the brain behind the death of his cousin, Osas Edosomwan, a teacher in the school,
The party Chieftain (name withheld) sent thugs to destroy the school and their private resident.
The source further said that it was the constant attacks and harassment that made Clement and his family to flee for their lives in late 2020, and the harassment and threats led to his mother’s death as a result of high blood pressure in 2023.
It was gathered that this latest attack on October 5, 2024, was carried out when they heard rumours that Clement has returned back and that he might tender these evidence at the Edo Governorship Election Petition Tribunal that is sitting in Benin, where other parties are challenging the result that declared APC Senator Monday Okpebholo winner of the election.
The source states that the attackers do not know his whereabouts hence they attack family members.
