The 16 students of Edo College, Benin City, who are recipients of the inaugural Echichoya Emmanuel Edobor Scholarship Award, have expressed their joy and appreciation to the donor for the opportunity given to them.

The students received the scholarship award on Friday, October 18, for their outstanding academic achievements.

They include Chukwu Constance Amanchukwu, Igheneki David O, Okodugha Joseph, Osaruse Agbahowa Stanley, Olawoniyi John, Amadasun Orobosa, Egharevba Theodore, and Nleme Favour Chinedu.

Others are Egbon Kennedy Oduagbon, Emwenoreko Godsent, Dimobika Jeffrey, Utosu Henry, Osazemwinde Izoduwa Ricking, Dafe Muhammad Oghenetoyin, Aiwekhoe Jephthah and Iyare Michael Isowa.

The scholarship initially set to cover the entire academic year, will instead fund the second and third terms, following unforeseen circumstances that prevented its implementation in the first term.

The donor, Echichoya Emmanuel Edobor, who is also an Edo College alumnus from the Class of 1993, while addressing the recipients via a virtual message read by Azuka Ofunne, praised the dedication and hard work of the awardees, highlighting their commitment to academic excellence.

“I am thrilled to present this scholarship to such remarkable students whose exceptional achievements testify to their commitment and excellence. This recognition not only highlights their hard work and dedication but also underscores the importance of fostering young talents,” he said.

Edobor also expressed his gratitude to those who helped make the scholarship award a reality, emphasising the vital role such supports play in building a brighter future for the next generation of leaders.

Expressing appreciation, one of the award recipients, Igheneki David O., thanked God for the opportunity, saying, “I want to say I’m very glad to be one of the recipients of this award. I also want to congratulate my fellow students and pray that their hard work leads them to success.”

Another recipient, Dimobika Jeffrey, thanked the donor for giving him the chance.

“It’s not been easy for me since JSS1, but now I have something to show my parents. I hope that the rest of the beneficiaries will do even better in the future,” he said.

Parents of the scholarship recipients also expressed their gratitude during the event.
