The former first lady of Nigeria Dame Patience Jonathan has commended Governor Obaseki for embarking on projects beneficial to women in Edo State.

She made this commendation during the commissioning of the Creche and Food Court at the State Secretariat Complex on Wednesday in Benin City.

She said the Creche would provide a safe nurturing environment for nursing mothers in the civil/public service who would need to combine care for their children and their job demands.

She said it was quite thoughtful of the governor to embark on such a project that impacts directly on the lives of women, considering the stress women undergo in raising their children.

The proximity of the Creche to a workplace environment she said would bring comfort and ease of movement to the workers. She equally thanked the Governor for the food court that would offer good quality meals to the workers.

Dame Patience Jonathan noted that Governor Obaseki has raised the bar in service delivery to the people, considering the numerous developmental projects he embarked upon in his eight years tenure in the state, noting that posterity would remember him as he was leaving a good scorecard behind.

Jonathan also used the occasion to thank the wife of the Edo State Governor Mrs Betsy Obaseki and the entire people of the state for giving the governor the necessary support during his tenure in office.

In his response, Governor Obaseki said the building of the Creche was borne out of his desire to ease the burden and pressure women go through, saying the Creche would go a long way in improving the productivity and efficiency of the workers, just as he enjoined the incoming administration not to destroy the legacies he is leaving behind but to build on them.

ln his welcome address, the Managing Director Edo State Public Building and Maintenance Agency Engr. Austin Osakue disclosed that the Creche has the capacity to accommodate 70 children. It also comprises classrooms, offices, rest rooms, sickbay, cafeteria that would cater for the food needs of the family. Osakue also revealed that the food court would serve diverse needs of workers. It would not only provide good foods, it would serve as a meeting place for civil servants to relax, connect and bond with one another.
