Warri – The Delta State Police Command has made significant strides in its fight against crime, with notable achievements in Ughelli, Sapele, Warri, and surrounding areas. These accomplishments were announced during a press briefing on Monday, November 25, 2024, in Ughelli by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe.

Highlighting the Commissioner of Police Olufemi Abaniwonda’s pledge that “Deltans must sleep with their two eyes closed,” SP Edafe assured the public of the command’s commitment to security during the festive Ember months.

“Our tactical commanders and officers are under strict orders to intensify operations,” Edafe stated, pointing to recent successes in the battle against crime.

He noted that, the command’s recent victories was the arrest of Godstime Ajugba, a notorious kidnapper and armed robber, on November 18. Intelligence-led operations also uncovered a cache of weapons, including AK-47 rifles and ammunition, at a criminal hideout in Mosogar.

“This arrest disrupted a dangerous syndicate involved in kidnapping, car snatching, and SIM-swap fraud,” Edafe disclosed.

On November 20, a raid on a gang’s hideout near Warri led to a deadly shootout, with two suspects succumbing to injuries. Police recovered firearms, smartphones, and a luxury Rolex watch, shedding light on the gang’s criminal network. Efforts to track down remaining members are ongoing.

Speaking further, Edafe said, the command also dismantled a major drug cartel in Sapele on November 13. Seven suspects were arrested, and large quantities of illicit drugs, including codeine, tramadol, and cannabis, were seized. A Toyota Camry used for drug distribution was also confiscated.

SP Edafe revealed that the cartel’s alleged leader, known as “Obi God,” remains at large, but authorities are actively pursuing leads to capture him.

On community Collaboration , he said, in Kokori-Samagidi, joint efforts between the police and local hunters on November 11 led to the rescue of two kidnapped victims. One kidnapper was fatally injured, and two AK-47 rifles were recovered.

“This collaboration highlights the vital role of community involvement in crime-fighting,” Edafe said.

In another case, suspects posing as taxi operators were apprehended in Effurun after a victim reported being robbed during a staged ride. Investigations revealed the gang had been targeting clubgoers, stealing cash and valuables. Three suspects were arrested, and stolen items, including iPhones, were recovered.

SP Edafe concluded the briefing by reaffirming the command’s dedication to public safety as the yuletide season approaches.

“These achievements demonstrate our unwavering commitment to ensuring a crime-free Delta State,” he stated.
