A resident of Edo State, Mr. Jerry Ebosetale Enaholo, has raised fresh concerns over his safety, alleging persistent threats from members of a violent cult group despite lodging multiple reports with the police.
According to a police extract dated May 12, 2024, from the Uromi Area Command Headquarters, the matter began in February when Mr. Enaholo unknowingly entered into a relationship with a woman, identified as Vivian, who was allegedly connected to a cult member.
The report, filed by his father, Mr. Daniel Enaholo, states that in April 2024, cult members in Ekpoma accosted Jerry at gunpoint. One of the suspects, believed to be Vivian’s partner, allegedly threatened him to “stay away from the woman or pay with his life.”
A subsequent extract from the Oregbeni Police Command dated August 5, 2024, shows that Mr. Enaholo again reported being repeatedly threatened by the same group in Benin City. He told investigators that the threats had become frequent and that his life remained in danger.
Speaking with The Nigerian Observer this week, Mr. Enaholo said the threats have not abated. “I live in constant fear. I cannot move freely because I don’t know when or where they might attack again,” he lamented, adding that there had been “no resolution” to his case.
Police authorities have yet to provide an official update on the progress of the investigation.
The case underscores the growing menace of cult-related violence across Edo State and other parts of Nigeria, where residents complain that such groups continue to operate with impunity despite repeated security crackdowns.
