Four-time Africa Cup of Nations champions, the Ghana Black Stars, may miss out on the 2025 tournament in Morocco, ending their impressive 10-tournament streak.

Despite being one of Africa’s most frequent participants with 24 appearances, Ghana’s poor performance in the qualifiers has left them on the verge of elimination.

Currently sitting third in Group F with only two points from four matches, Ghana trails behind Angola, who have already qualified with a perfect record, and Sudan, who need just a draw from their last two matches to secure the second qualification spot. Sudan’s upcoming matches include a clash against bottom-placed Niger on neutral ground in Togo. Sudan also hold a head-to-head advantage over Ghana, compounding the Black Stars’ predicament.

For Ghana to keep their hopes alive, they must win their final two qualifiers—away to Angola and at home against Niger—while hoping Sudan lose both remaining games. This scenario casts uncertainty over the future of head coach Otto Addo, whose job may be at risk if Ghana fails to qualify.

Meanwhile, other teams have already secured their spots in Morocco, including Angola, Algeria, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, DR Congo, Egypt, hosts Morocco, and Senegal.

Holders Cote d’Ivoire need only a point from their Group G match against Zambia to confirm their place, while Nigeria, after being awarded points from their disrupted match in Libya, can book their spot with a win against Benin in neutral Abidjan.

Tunisia, aiming for a record 17th consecutive appearance, recently dismissed coach Faouzi Benzarti following an unexpected home loss to the Comoros Islands. Under caretaker Kais Yaacoubi, Tunisia will face Madagascar in neutral South Africa on Thursday, where a win would secure their qualification.

In addition, due to CAF’s rulings on stadium standards, 18 countries, including Madagascar, are forced to play home qualifiers at neutral venues.
