There’s palpable fears and disappointment among the forum of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ward leaders as the Akwa Ibom State governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has rejected the list of supervisors sent in by the ward leaders over alleged favoritism.
A government house source disclosed that most ward leaders grossly abused their privileges by nominating their wives, children and thugs and even girl friends as supervisors in their respective local governments.
A PDP ward chairman, who did not want to be named, said most of the ward leaders, who are currently serving in the state EXCO and other state government boards and parastatals, saw their recognition as compensation for their support for Pastor Umo Eno.
He appreciated the state governor for his political inclusivity and liberalism, but warned that if the nomination is not spread to cover all parts of every ward, the PDP’s chances in the 2027 election might become slim.
Another PDP chieftain, Obong Lawrence Unawo, while confirming the report, said the leaders have also oppressed and relegated the party’s structure to political limbo.
He commended the governor and implored him to maintain the template and ensure that political offices rotate around the wards for equity and fairplay.
